INTRODUCTION

Language is a tool for humans to communicate, with human language

it will be easier to communicate. Humans are social creatures who interact with each other. Communication is used to convey certain intentions from someone to another person through language, whether orally, in writing or linguistically

signal. Without language, it would be difficult for us to communicate and convey our intentions or goals to other people and interact in everyday life.

English is one of the international languages that is most widely studied and used in communicating between nations. This is in accordance with the role of English as a global language as stated by Crystal (2003: 3) that English plays a role as a global or world language because English is studied and used as a means of communication in various countries, either as a first language, a second language or as a language. foreign. In Indonesia, English is the first foreign language studied as a compulsory subject from junior high school to university.

By having English language skills, we can easily access and obtain information because most of the information is written in English. This happens because English functions as the language of science, technology and trade. The ability to speak English is also one of the abilities that is very determining in obtaining employment because top companies in Indonesia always include requirements for English language skills, both spoken and written, as one of the requirements for becoming an employee at the company (Sutiyono, 2014).

It cannot be denied that until now the first international language widely used is English. English is taught widely in various countries in the world. According to Richards & Rodger, 1986, many people in various countries use English as a means of communication in various important international meetings. Mastery of English is very important because almost all global sources of information in various aspects of life use this language. Crystal (2000; 1) states that English is a global language. This statement represents the meaning that English is used by various nations to communicate with nations around the world. So, English is an international language as well as a global language. Learning and understanding English is an unavoidable necessity. By learning English, someone will open their horizons and knowledge internationally.

As a global language, English plays a very big function and role. One of the visible implications is that more and more people are trying to learn/master English well. In the field of education, for example. To face global competition, English is introduced to students early. Many elementary school (SD) and even kindergarten (TK) students are starting to learn English, but English is also starting to be widely used in everyday life (Fitriana, 2012)

For this reason, the role of academics who understand and master English language concepts is very important to improve and develop. As academics, you should be able to contribute and share information as well as train and develop the potential and abilities of the community.

Based on observations carried out in the Kalibobo sub-district, it was found that there was a lack of knowledge among children in mastering vocabulary, making them a little late in speaking English. So from this problem we are interested in making a contribution to society through workshop activities about the importance of English in everyday life for people in the Majalengka sub-district.

METHODS OF IMPLEMENTING ACTIVITIES

The method used in this community service is direct training to the community in Kalibobo Village. The training participants consisted of people in Kelibobo Village who were still at school age. The aim of this activity is to provide information on the importance of English in everyday life. In other words, what is to be achieved in this service activity is that participants are trained to be able and understand and feel the importance of English in everyday life for the people of Kalibobo sub-district. This activity will be carried out on 25 and 30 August 2022 at 09.00 – 12.00 DISCUSSION OF ACTIVITY RESULTS

The first communication force is the internet, then language. The power of the internet allows humans to communicate in real-time and gives humans a choice in how they communicate. Now, with the same means of communication, the internet can write, talk, or videoconference anyone in the world who has the ability to connect. Not only that, ease of transportation and affordability have made it possible to travel all over the world, thereby experiencing new environments. But now that the infrastructure is available, there is still one final barrier, namely language (Kusuma, 2018)

The use of English as the language of instruction in the classroom provides ample opportunities for students to interact in English so that students will be familiar with various English vocabulary, grammar and sentence patterns. This is important because of the limited opportunities for them to communicate in English at home and in the environment where they live. At home, there is little or no opportunity for them to communicate in English. This is the case in the environment they live in because people do not use English as a means of communicating in their daily lives. The opportunity to communicate in English at school is the only opportunity for elementary school students to develop their speaking skills. In addition, using English as the language of instruction in class will be able to reduce the fear of making mistakes yourself.

The results of the workshop showed that the participants enjoyed the activity and they were very happy with the material explained. After completing the presentation of the material, participants were given the opportunity to be able to say several words in English. Not only do they say words, but they are also given the opportunity to make simple sentences in English. Because the delivery of material provided by the team does not make them feel bored and fed up. It is said by (Widdowson, 2000) that as an educator, knowing the purpose of language learning is emphasized. As we all know, the main purpose of language learning is to prepare students to achieve communication and use of a language that has been learned. Every meeting carried out in the learning process is the acquisition of sentences that have been carried out by students. However, the practice of the language they have acquired is sometimes only limited to acquisition in linguistic form without any communication practice itself after leaving the classroom. Furthermore, in research conducted by Maduwu (2016), it was revealed that as long as English is in a position as a foreign language, our children's abilities will not experience much change, so discourse is needed to change the position of English in Indonesia. Teachers should use English teaching techniques that are appropriate to the position of English in Indonesia.

CONCLUSION

Based on the results of the presentation of the material and the interaction process that occurred in the workshop activities, it was seen that the participants involved in the activities enjoyed receiving the material presented by the presenters. And it also seems that they can understand and are able to say several words and make these words into sentences.
